Question: (9/10/2016) I was thrilled to see such school spirit at the football game against EC. The student section was awesome and made me proud of our kids! I would love to see them keep it up at all games, but I was told they are not allowed to have a student section at home. Why would that be? Shouldn't we be promoting school spirit?

Answer: (9/13/2016) We do have one, and a sign is being ordered to put in the stands at the HFISD stadium.

Question: (8/30/2016) I DID NOT SEE IN THE HOURS FOR SCHOOL IF A PRE-K WOULD GO ALL DAY OR 1/2 DAY AND WHAT HOURS

Answer: (9/12/2016) Normal PreK is scheduled for ½ day. For further information, please call the Elementary school at 794-1412.

Question: (8/29/2016) How many days can kindergarten students miss?

Answer: (9/12/2016) Every student is supposed to attend at least 90% of school days according to state law.  For more specific information regarding school attendance, please contact the appropriate campus personnel.

Question: (8/29/2016) I would like to know why it is okay that I missed the first day of school because I change the bus route that bother to tell nobody. And then today you change the bus route again and we missed the bus again and nobody bothered to tell the parents. Now I'm going to be 30 minutes late to work and had to go through that stupid drop off Route to drop off my kids at school! I had to waste my gas my time and now I'm late to work doing donuts in your parking lot. Why can't we just drop them off in front of the school like normal people! But instead we got to do donuts in circles and freaking flip flops to drop our kids off at school every morning! If you're going to change a bus route you need to let the parents know! You don't tell a 10 year old and expect them to remember!

Answer: (9/12/2016) We are aware of the issues with the bus routes and pickup times. Steps have been taken to address those concerns with Durham School transportation.  We apologize for the inconvenience of the school traffic patterns we currently use.  This should be alleviated when we move the elementary traffic back to Burrell-Wingate Rd upon completion of the new building. (Jan. 2017)

Question: (8/17/2016) How will this $20 Technology Fee be tracked. If you calculate this fee out over all students in the district you have a substantial dollar figure. This figure is large enough I would expect it to be a line item on the Districts yearly budget. Also, as this fund grows what will the money be spent on? Who will make the decisions regarding this money? Will we be advancing the Districts Technology for future?

Answer: (9/12/2016) The technology fee serves two purposes: insurance for students (and staff) for accidental damage, and to fund replacements/repairs that will be necessary to support the program.  The technology dept. in coordination with campus administrators will make decisions regarding this money.

Question: (8/15/2016) So even a one day absence will now require a note from a doctor to be considered "excused?" I really don't see myself bringing my child to the doctor every time he's running a fever.

Question: (8/11/2016) I would like to know who creates these REDICULOUS school supply list.... 72 - #2 Pencils...Really?? Then specify the brand you must use! I know I am not the only concerned parent, just one who decided to speak up.

Thank you

Question: (7/18/2016) Is HFISD considered an "open registration campus" related to residency? At the bottom of the Technology Handbook & Responsibilities Use Agreement page it mentions a payment to return? What is this for and how much? (Intermediate)

Answer: (9/12/2016) HFISD is not an open registration campus, but we do have a transfer policy for out of district students.  Please refer to the transfer information that can be found at: http://www.hfisd.net/47771_2 The technology fee ($20) serves two purposes: insurance for students (and staff) for accidental damage, and to fund replacements/repairs that will be necessary to support the program.

Question: (7/17/2016) I have three kids in different campus and I am going to have to pay 75.00 in technology fees...what if this is something that I just can't do at this time. The school supply list has not shortened and supplies are expensive. This is a public school and I don't feel we should have to pay for our kids to use technology.

Answer: (7/18/2016) The district is asking parents to pay $20 for each child as an electronic device fee.  This fee will act as “insurance” for students against accidental damage to electronic devices provided by the District.  Intentional damage, abuse, or gross negligence and failure to follow guidelines will not be covered by the “insurance”.

The fee is to provide incentive for the students to be cautious and take care of the District devices which they will use regularly, and protect them financially from excessive costs by accidental damage.

By declining to pay the fee, parents will be responsible for the full cost of any device if it is damaged.

She will start kindergarten next year and has a grandparent in mid county who will be picking her up after school. I have family there at hfisd and have always heard great things.  It wouldn't much difference in distance for her gma to drive there or bc. Thank you

Question: (7/7/2016) I would like to know why only athletes and drivers are being drug tested. While I feel the testing is a great idea,  I think it is unfair and  discriminating  to those kids. I am sure they are not the only ones using drugs. Why won't every student enrolled be tested?

Answer: (7/18/2016) Legal precedent for school drug testing policies inclines districts to identify pools of students based on activities such as those you named and including other extra-curriculars like band, uil academics, FFA, etc.  There is also a clause allowing parents to opt-in for their child (grades 7-12).  Every student will not be required to be tested as this type of policy has failed to hold up in court because of mandatory school attendance laws.

I would love an explanation as to why so many teachers are leaving our district. Especially since I know that Ms. Cart and Coach Snipes departures could have been avoided.(High School)

Answer: (7/18/2016) The district declines to comment on personnel matters.

Answer: (7/14/2016) The technology handbook will be attached to each campus handbook for 2016-17.  The campus handbooks will be posted after they are updated. (July/August)

Question: (6/10/2016) I would like to know why the random drug testing will only be for athletes and students who drive? This seems like discrimination against that group. ALL enrolled students should be tested.

Answer: (7/14/2016) Legal precedent for school drug testing policies inclines districts to identify pools of students based on activities such as those you named and including other extra-curriculars like band, uil academics, FFA, etc.  There is also a clause allowing parents to opt-in for their child (grades 7-12).

Question: (6/9/2016) Why were annuals given out before the end of school year without graduation and several other activities included? (High School)

Answer: (7/14/2016) There will be a supplemental section that will have an adhesive strip with 7 pages what will have prom, Spring activities and graduation.  It will be given out for an additional charge at Longhorn Leap.  The yearbook company encourages an end of school release...and this is because people do not come and pick up their yearbooks and this is evident with then many yearbooks we have in storage from years past.

The students were polled in the Fall 2015 and most students at HFHS wanted a May/June release date rather than an August.

Question: (5/31/2016) My children and I have just moved from Lufkin, TX. I was told that all I will have to do is walk into the school and they will already be in the system wherever they go. How can I verify that? Will I still need to fill out the registration form, as well?

Answer: (6/8/2016) Your children should be in the state information system (TREx/PEIMS) if you had them enrolled in a Texas school district, but yes we will need you to fill out a registration form to get a current address and other informmation.  We have four campuses: Elementary (PK-3) – (409)794-1412, Intermediate (4-6) – (409)794-1558, Middle School (7-8) – (409)794-1502 and HS (9-12) – (409)243-2131.  Please contact the appropriate campus(es) for your children.  Thank you for your interest in Hamshire-Fannett ISD!
