Transition
What’s YOUR Pathway?
Using the Texas Transition & Employment Guide to Map Your Way to Adulthood
Moving from school into adult life is an exciting time that requires thoughtful planning and preparation.
Where will you work? What will you want to learn or study after high school? Where will you live? What kind of support might you need to reach your goals?
You may have already started thinking about what you want your future to look like. Pathways: The Texas Transition & Employment Guide to a Successful Life After High School for Students with Disabilities can help students and families explore those possibilities and plan for life after graduation.
You and your family can use this guide to:
★ Understand transition planning as part of your Individualized Education Program (IEP)
★ Plan for the transfer of legal rights when a student reaches age 18
★ Explore pathways to college, career and technical education, certification programs, employment, independent living and adult health care
★ Learn about financial support and resources available to adults with disabilities
★ Identify skills, experiences and activities you can work on now to help you reach your goals after high school
★ Connect with services and agencies that can provide support as you transition into adulthood
Where Can I Find the Transition & Employment Guide?
The current Texas Transition & Employment Guide is available through the Texas Education Agency.
English and Spanish versions of the guide are available online through the Texas Education Agency's Special Education Support website.
