MS Band Director: Jennifer Atkinson
Welcome to the Hamshire-Fannett Shorthorn Band Program
We have three main band classes at MS:
- Wind Ensemble
- Concert Band
- Beginner Band
The most important part of this organization is the students and their willingness to work hard to uphold the high standards and high ideals of the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorn Music Department. In order to be a successful ensemble member, you must develop self-discipline, dedication, hard work, cooperation, pride, and spirit. Through these, you will be able to demonstrate your ability to learn and perform music and the willingness to work and get along with the other members of the organization. We feel we teach our students the characteristics that will make them successful in life after high school through music.
Students wanting to join the Beginner band will be responsible for providing their own instruments however, there are some school provided instruments available. Students will be selected to play instruments based on the results from instrument tryouts. Some sections have a limited number of players based on the instrumentation available. More details about instrument tryouts will be provided at a later date.
All of the MS Bands perform in the Christmas and Spring concerts during the year. The 7th and 8th grade band students also perform at selected pep rallies and home football games. Students in Wind Ensemble and Concert Band will have the opportunity to try out for the ATSSB All-Region Band and compete at UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest, as well as UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest in the spring.
We would like to congratulate the Wind Ensemble and Concert Band for earning a Superior Rating in The American Classic Virtual Music Festival this past year!
